Transformative Projects
Community Initiatives
Project Overview
Since before our official incorporation, the JT Foundation has executed over 30 fully documented projects during and after major crises such as the 2021 La Soufrière eruption and 2024 Hurricane Beryl. Every initiative was designed to respond fast, deliver real help, and rebuild lives on Union Island and surrounding communities. Here is a detailed list of the projects we have carried out, detailed pictures and video updates of the projects can be found on our instagram page:
Airport Reopening and Emergency Flight Coordination
We coordinated the reopening of Union Island’s airport by working directly with our contacts on the ground and the control tower in Saint Vincent. This allowed us to safely land our first chartered relief planes less than 24 hours after the hurricane passed. In collaboration with Air Adelphi, these flights delivered urgent supplies including medicine, tarpaulins, chainsaws, solar systems, and generators that were critical for the first days of recovery.
Emergency Firefighter Deployment
We flew in a team of six professional firefighters from Martinique just days after Hurricane Beryl. They spent a full week assisting with debris clearance, safety checks, and community support. We also coordinated and paid for their flights back.
Helicopter Relief Missions
Through direct lobbying with French authorities and coordination in Martinique, we secured dozens of helicopter rotations to bring urgent medical supplies, evacuate injured residents, and support hard-to-reach communities on Union Island.
French Navy Relief Operation
In partnership with the French Navy and Martinique’s local population, we organized two full rotations of the Dumont d’Urville warship. This delivered over 300 tons of supplies including food, water tanks, fuel, construction materials, and medical equipment.
Expedition Shelter Village
We built a full tent village on the grounds of Anchorage Yacht Club, housing over 25 people who had lost their homes. The setup included expedition-grade tents, solar-powered electricity, running water, showers, and daily food support.
Solar Power for Shelters
We installed four complete solar panel and battery systems in major shelters. These setups powered lights, fans, and Starlink internet terminals for weeks while the island grid remained offline.
Starlink Internet Across the Island
We deployed multiple Starlink terminals and built solar panel racks at shelters, the police station, and NEMO. We also partnered with the Vodafone Foundation to expand Wi-Fi access across Union Island.
24-Hour Emergency Coordination
Founder Jeremie Tronet remained in contact with the island through a Starlink system left behind before the hurricane. From Martinique, he coordinated logistics, updated global supporters, and connected doctors, politicians, and pilots to the local population.
Food and Water Distribution
We delivered food and drinking water across Union Island and Mayreau from day one. This included pallets from the Navy, fresh deliveries from Saint Vincent, and direct cooking partnerships with local catering businesses.
Prepared Meal Program from St. Vincent
We funded the preparation and delivery of thousands of hot meals from catering companies in Kingstown. These meals were sent by boat and distributed islandwide for weeks after the disaster.
Water Filtration for Cisterns
We installed heavy-duty filtration systems on public cisterns and in private homes, turning murky rainwater into safe drinking water for shelters and affected families.
Generator Program
We sourced and delivered 144 generators. Each shelter received at least one, and dozens more were distributed to local homes and small businesses. We also organized maintenance, oil changes, and electrical setup with local electricians.
Solar Light and Fan Distribution
We distributed hundreds of solar lights and hundreds of rechargeable fans throughout the island, helping families cope with long power outages and extreme heat.
Mattress and Bedding Program
We delivered hundreds full bedding sets to shelters and homes. Every mattress and sheet set was handed out directly to ensure comfort and dignity, especially for children and the elderly.
Food Voucher Program
We injected EC $20,000 into Union Island’s economy by distributing 200 food vouchers worth EC $100 each. These could be redeemed at the island’s two main supermarkets, helping both residents and shopkeepers recover.
Boat Repair Program
We supplied epoxy, fiberglass, and mechanical support to help dozens of boat owners repair their vessels. This allowed fishermen and transport operators to get back on the water quickly and support the local economy.
Outboard Engine Repairs
We partnered with a local mechanic to help repair dozens of damaged outboard engines. Parts and labor were fully funded, helping many people resume work and mobility.
Tool Loaning Program
We launched a tool bank at the Marine Park office with over US $40,000 worth of high-end DeWalt tools. Residents could borrow drills, saws, jackhammers, and more, completely free. Over 1,000 checkouts were recorded in four months.
Chainsaws and Debris Removal Equipment
We distributed dozens of chainsaws, bolt cutters, safety gear, and fuel to residents and volunteers. These tools were essential to clearing roads, cutting fallen trees, and allowing emergency access.
Roof Repair Program
We funded full roof repairs for over a dozen homes. Materials, labor, and logistics were covered, helping families finally move out of shelters and live safely again.
Window and Door Distribution
We purchased and delivered 31 aluminum windows, allowing over 20 families to close their homes and restore basic living conditions.
School Repairs
We funded the repair of the private Ashton School, helping restore classrooms with roofing and structural work. This was critical to getting children back into a learning environment.
Prefab Home Foundations
We completed two full foundations with concrete slabs and septic systems for prefab homes, giving families a safe place to rebuild.
Lumber Donation to NGO
We donated a full container of lumber to the GumboLimbo group. This wood was used for dozens of housing projects and became a key building material for local recovery efforts.
Tree Replanting Program
We planted over 150 coconut trees and erosion-control plants in the Tobago Cays and Mayreau after Hurricane Beryl. The goal was to restore natural shade, support coastal stability, and protect the environment from future erosion.
Media and International Awareness
Founder Jeremie Tronet appeared on BBC and other major outlets, using global media coverage to raise awareness and keep fundraising momentum alive.
La Soufrière Volcano Relief (2021)
During the 2021 eruption, we raised over €50,000 and delivered food and water directly to affected families across Saint Vincent. JT Pro Center staff worked on the ground for two full weeks, feeding thousands.
